Join us as we welcome to Indianapolis the ASALH National Conference and more than 1,000 scholars, educators, community members, students, researchers and active citizens from around the world who will participate in more than 200 fascinating presentations and informative dialogues about African and African American life and history.

We need YOU and other hospitality minded volunteers to successfully host this event.

 

REMINDERS:

What will Volunteers do? 

Volunteers will assist guests in all aspects of the event.

Will volunteers wear a uniform?  

No uniform will be required for this event.  Please keep personal items to a minimum as there will be no safekeeping for such items. 

Will parking be provided?  

Discount parking will be available at Gate 10 parking ($10-13).  Shuttles will be provided to and from the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown and will run one hour prior to the beginning of shifts and run one hour after the shifts.

Is there a volunteer age requirement? 

All volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, however we will accept volunteers from 13-17 years of age IF a PARENT will be able work with you during your shift.   

Will volunteers need to attend orientation? 

Depending on the shift you choose, you may be required to attend orientation.  You will be notified by the Committee Chair and/or Volunteer Coordinator if you are required to attend.  Orientation will be Tuesday, October 2nd from 6:00 - 8:30 pm in the Kentucky Room on the 1st floor of the Indianapolis Marriott Downtown, 350 West Maryland St, Indianapolis, IN 46225.    

Do volunteers need to have special skills? 

No special skills required (just smiling faces) for general volunteer positions. If interested in specialized volunteer positions, please contact Dr. Cathi Cornelius 317-709-6888.
